Sustainable, resource-conscious management is becoming increasingly important for all of us!
In addition to a sustainable company location, we also ensure that precisely these issues are improved in the value creation process. For example, in our food products, we rely on sustainable fish production (MSC / ASC seal) in which no destructive fishing methods are used and no endangered species are caught as bycatch.
We are also particularly focusing on expanding our vegetarian and vegan products, as well as sourcing sustainably-grown raw materials, such as palm oil. As a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), we ensure compliance with the set RSPO guidelines, in accordance with which we also undertake to only use certified palm oil.
One of our main goals is to limit our environmental impact, reduce our use of resources, and manufacture products in a way that is as environmentally friendly as possible. This also applies to the use of FSC-certified cardboard boxes. Despite all these measures, we know we still have to do more. We have therefore set ourselves goals for reducing greenhouse gases from our business activities: We are committed to reducing our absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG-emissions by 42% by 2030 from a 2022 base year, and to calculating and reducing our Scope 3 emissions.
This target is in line with the reductions required to limit global warming to 1.5°C of the Paris Agreement and has been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (https://sciencebasedtargets.org/target-dashboard).
We offset emissions at our site that we cannot (yet) reduce with a financial climate contribution since 2019.

Trading is in our family’s DNA, as the origins of MDS Holding date to the early 20th century. The cornerstone of today’s success was laid by the founding of the Ollrogge & Co. trading house by the uncle of Helmut Schulz, the founding father of the present-day MDS Holding. By taking over the existing Ollrogge & Co. trading house, Helmut Schulz expanded his uncle’s previous range of food products through his network in the fresh fish industry.
Over the years, the entrepreneurial structures were developed further and an extensive network of numerous manufacturers helped to expand the range. The demand for a diverse range of products increased. The manufacturer network grew over time, enabling the company to offer customers an extensive range of foods as far back as the early 1970s. This resulted in the establishment of HMF Food Production.
At the end of the 1970s, the two sons Michael and Dietmut Schulz joined the company. Under their leadership, the company continued to develop successfully into its current structures.
At the beginning of the 1990s, the group of companies was ready not only to further develop its range of food products, but also to open up new market segments. Pharmaceutical products were added to the range in 1994 under the PRO DIMI PHARMA (today PRO DIMI HEALTHCARE), followed by numerous non-food items under the existing MERX BELLAVIE.
MDS Holding was founded in 2002 to combine the individual companies into one overall structure.
The grandchildren Tillman Schulz and Moritz Schulz joined the family business in 2012. In 2014 the company MOTIDO was founded under the leadership of these two. The company has been run by the two grandchildren since 2020 in the 3rd generation.
